Nearly opaque black ruby-violet color. Pronounced, herbal, licorice-vanilla and dark cherry aromas, fragrant and explosive intensity. Definite clone 6 influence, almost dark and earthy. Full-bodied, with a thick chewy texture, ripe black and red fruits, firm but supple tannins and no sense of jamminess or over-ripeness. Ripe tannins and solid acidity provide underpinning. Hints of licorice and mineral, as well as bittersweet cocoa, show up in the very long finish. This wine has high fruit intensity combined with strong structure to insure extended aging up to two decades from vintage, and should be the longest aging Private Reserve of the 1990's. Best served: Now-2015.

Firm structure and plenty of stuffing here, with cedary currant, wild berry, currant and spice, and firm tannins.

Wine Enthusiast
This age-old classic begins with sawdust aromas and hints of mint and green bean. Broad plum, berry and vanilla flavors spread across the wide-open palate, followed by a finish of mocha and coffee. The wine is on the sweet side, with fairly aggressive oak, yet it manages to shine and strut its stuff. Still, more definition and delicacy would elevate it further.

Sustainable practices incorporate organic standards and may exceed them and include ecologically and socially sound business practices such as fair pay for farm workers and energy conservation.
Screw Cap
Wines sealed with a screw cap as opposed to a cork, which experts report protects and preserves wine more effectively than does a cork, while also eliminating the possibility of cork taint.
No Sulfites
All wines naturally contain some sulfites, however wines that contain less than 10 parts per million sulfites are not required to include "Contains Sulfites" on their labels.
