Wine Spectator

Wonderful floral, raspberry and cherry character follows through to a full body, with fine tannins and a chewy finish. Tight and structured, with bright acidity. Best wine ever from here. Best after 2011.

Score: 93. —James Suckling, 2009.

Wine Advocate

The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is a pretty, fragrant wine. Initially rather reticent, this medium-bodied Brunello needs some aeration for its perfumed red cherry fruit to open up in the glass. The wine offers good intensity and depth, but needs at least a few years in bottle for the tannins to soften. There is a somewhat rustic soul to this wine but at the same time a genuineness I find appealing. With some time in the glass, the wine turns into a gem. The Brunello spent 30 months in 20-hectoliter casks. This terrific effort from Brunelli insures his legacy will live on. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024.

Score: 93. —Antonio Galloni, June 2009.

Wine Enthusiast

Gianni Brunelli-Le Chiuse di Sotto is the kind of Brunello you'll want to pair with pork tenderloin or leg of lamb. The wine's caressing aromas recall ripe berries, spice and cured meat. It offers chewy consistency and a tight tannic backbone. The wine is on the ripe side and for that reason it could be a good match to hearty meat dishes.

Score: 90. —Monica Larner, June 01, 2009.
