Daniel Barraud

Sort results:
The world's best buys in great Chardonnay are wines from a small handful of producers in France's Mâconnais region. Pouilly-Fuissé has found a new nobility in the world of white Burgundy; a sip of a Mâcon-Vergisson “La Roche” may make you quickly forget many a Meursault and a Chassagne. We exclusively import wines from the village of Vergisson, the mother lode of poor soils and flavor-rich rocks. Daniel Barraud is one winemaker who ably harnesses the power from these poor soils, but you’d never hear him boast of his talents. He’s a quiet, fastidious man whose personality seems in direct contrast to the powerful, impressive white Burgundy in his barrels. Over the past decade we’ve watched transfixed as Barraud has improved upon his already flawless craft. In the beginning we used to make all of our own barrel selections in the cellar, but now Barraud prides himself in crafting his own selections. The closest neighbor Barraud has in terms of quality is Jean-Marie Guffens of Guffens-Heynen. Micro-bottlings, micro-harvesting, expert use of wood: lazy winemakers need not apply. As one would expect, Barraud's wines are rich, opulent, yet beautifully structured Chardonnays. They have the pedigree and breed that only the best White Burgundies possess and are, by definition, always produced in very small quantities. Visit the Daniel Barraud website.
